Second Crewed Skylab Mission Splashes Down, Sept. 25, 1973

This week in 1973, the second crewed Skylab mission splashed down in the Pacific Ocean following a successful 59-day mission in the orbiting laboratory. Here, astronaut Owen K. Garriott retrieves an image experiment from the Apollo Telescope Mount during an extravehicular activity. Today, the Payload Operations Integration Center at Marshall serves as "science central" for the space station, working 24/7, 365 days a year in support of the orbiting laboratory's scientific experiments.
